Collaborating with shelters, rescues, and advocates to expand care, strengthen laws, and improve animal welfare.
Our Pillars of Focus
Four areas of focus, one mission: building a better future for animals.
Spay/Neuter & Veterinary Access
Accessible spay/neuter and vet care keep pets healthy and reduces strays.
Advocacy For Modern Policies
Better laws and stronger enforcement safeguards pets, families, and neighborhoods.
Rescue and Shelter Resources
Sharing tools and resources to help rescues and shelters save more lives together.
Modernizing Metro Animal Shelter
A modern shelter means safer care, stronger adoptions, and better outcomes.
Join the Collaborative
Collaboration works best when everyone has a voice: volunteers, rescues, shelters, and neighbors like you.
The Animal Welfare Collaborative was formed over a year ago by Bob Coulson to bring together the many animal welfare organizations across Tuscaloosa County.
Early on, the group conducted a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) to better understand the challenges facing local shelters, rescues, and advocates. From that process, the Collaborative defined its four pillars of focus.
Most planning and idea-sharing happens through our active Facebook group (you can join below). We will be holding our next meeting on zoom, where partners and community members come together to collaborate on solutions.

our spay and neuter campaign
www.FixYour.Pet
Every year, thousands of unwanted litters add to the number of homeless pets in Tuscaloosa County. With overcrowded shelters and limited rescue options, this has led to a rise in euthanasias, especially for larger dogs.
The Collaborative launched the FixYour.Pet campaign to raise awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering. Preventing unplanned litters is the most effective way to reduce overpopulation, ease the strain on local shelters, and save lives.
How You Can Help
Getting Involved
Come to our Meetings
Joining our monthly meetings is one of the best ways to stay connected and make a real difference for animals in Tuscaloosa County. By showing up, you add your voice, your ideas, and your support to a movement that’s working to create lasting change for pets and people alike.
Get a Yardsign
Placing a yard sign is a simple but powerful way to spread the word about spay and neuter resources in our community. Every sign sparks conversations with neighbors and raises awareness about the need to reduce pet overpopulation. You can purchase a Collaborative yard sign locally through Woodland Cotton.
